Andy McCafferty is a London-based artist and creative technologist, and alumnus of the Slade School of Fine Art with a Post-Compulsory PGCE from the Institute of Education. He collaborates on interdisciplinary projects exploring the intersection of art, science and technology.
Awarded an AHRC grant, Andy explored how the brain responds to sensory stimuli engaging the body and visualised concepts in physics. He has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at ARSciE, Imperial College London; The London Group's Centenary Open; the Bridges Conference, Eindhoven; and a commission for Mind Games: Art Alive, Sydney. His work is also available through the Wellcome Collection.
Alongside his artistic practice, Andy has a longstanding background in adult learning. His work as an educator and in digital learning development informs his exploration of creativity, technology and wellbeing, and the potential of art to support mental and physical health.
Supported by Arts Council England, he is currently developing a participatory digital art project that reimagines art therapy practice through a novel tool designed to help people visualise and experience healing processes. Early research has been presented in Berlin, at a Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising event and at The National Gallery. He was also invited to submit a proposal to the Digital International Creative Arts Therapies Symposium.
