Flickering Reality: Exploring Ideas In Film And Television Horror and the Role of Terror: The Antithesis of Being Glad to Be Alive with Christopher Hauke

I was invited to join this Zoom presentation organised by the Pari Centre for New Learning. The centre was created by David F. Peat and Maureen Doolan. For more information about the great work they do, visit their website: Our story - The Pari Center.

A key takeaway from the presentation was notions of the unconscious, and horror being a way of entering this world, of the irrational realm.

In the talk, Hauke states the reason, he believes, is that these ‘sensations’ lie very deep, at what Jung called the ‘psychoid’ which was ‘neither matter nor mind and both’.

The presentation was recorded and you can watch it here Flickering Reality: Horror and the Role of Terror: the Antithesis of Being Glad to be Alive - YouTube

Found these notes I’d made from an Arthur Miller lecture on theoretical physicist Wolfgang Pauli and Carl Jung’s interactions: ‘Unconscious architypes manifest… identify images with mythology’.
