In the studio

Seeing with sounds

Pathotones used a variety of ‘open source executables’ to generate the sources sounds from an image of a tumour.

I wanted to find a way to have ‘real-time’ sounds played back from the scanning of an image.

I came across The vOICe created by Peter B.L. Meijer, and experimented with a model tumour for the purposes of study. I intend to develop my own software to progress the Senses of Tumour project.

The technology uses live camera views to produce sound from images. Images are converted (Fast Fourier Transform) into sound by scanning them from left to right and associates brightness with loudness and height with frequency: https://youtu.be/MjMhvfC1LTY
